Matted leaves and debris sitting on turf through a wet April do real damage. They hold moisture against the crown, block light exactly when the grass is trying to start, and leave thin dead patches that take most of the season to fill back in.
Getting it off early is cheap. Reseeding what died under it is not.
When we start
Once the ground has firmed up enough to work on without tearing it. That is usually somewhere in April here, and it moves year to year with the thaw. Going too early on soft ground does more harm than waiting a week.
Spring is the busiest stretch of our year, so booking ahead matters. Customers on a mowing schedule get their cleanup slotted in automatically.
What it leads into
Most people move straight from a spring cleanup onto a mowing schedule, since the first cut is part of the job anyway. If you would rather keep it as a one-off, that is fine too.
