What we do

Lawn care, maintenance & cleanups

Three things, done properly and done on time. If it's keeping a property cut, tidy and clear, it's on the list.

Freshly mowed lawn with clean stripes running alongside a house

Weekly & Bi-Weekly Mowing

Cut at the right height for the time of year, on a day you can plan around. The stripes are just what happens when it's done properly.

  • Weekly or every other week
  • Height set for the season
  • Clippings mulched back in

Spring Cleanups

  • Beds & borders cleaned out
  • First cut of the season

Fall Cleanups & Leaf Removal

Leaves off the grass before they mat down and kill it. They come down over weeks here, so most yards need more than one pass.

  • Leaves cleared & hauled
  • Beds and corners cleaned out
  • Repeat passes as they fall

The Iowa season

Eight months of grass, and every one of them is different

Eastern Iowa runs a short, hard mowing season. A wet spring where everything takes off at once, a July that can shut a lawn down entirely, and a fall that drops leaves for a month. Cutting the same way all season is how lawns end up thin.

  • May and June is the flush. Cool-season grass grows fastest here in late spring. Miss a week and you're bagging instead of mulching.
  • Cut high in July. Taller grass shades its own roots and holds up through the dry stretch. Scalping a lawn in midsummer is what browns it out.
  • Dormant isn't dead. Lawns go tan in a dry August and come back with the first real rain. That's normal here — it doesn't need to be replaced.
  • Leaves come down in waves. One big cleanup in November leaves a matted lawn under it. Several passes through October works better.
  • The season ends after the leaves. We usually run from about April to early November, weather depending.

Why Oak

Showing up is the whole job.

Nobody fires a lawn service over the quality of the cut. They fire them over the week nobody came, the text that never got answered, and the clippings left all over the driveway.

  • A day, and we keep it

You get a service day. If rain moves us, you hear it from us before you notice we're not there.

  • Finished, not just cut

Trimmed, edged and blown down every single visit. Look at the photos — that's the standard, not a one-off for the camera.

  • We answer the phone

Call or text 563-613-2207 and you get a person, not a form that goes nowhere.

  • Straight pricing

A free quote for the property in front of us, and the same number on the invoice.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you mow weekly or every other week?

Both. Weekly is what most eastern Iowa lawns need through May and June when the grass is running, and again in early fall. Every other week works fine in the heat of July and August when growth slows right down. We'll tell you which one your lawn actually needs instead of selling you the bigger schedule.

What's included in a mowing visit?

Mowing, trimming around trees, fences, posts and beds, edging along the drive and walks, and blowing the clippings off every hard surface before we leave. That's the standard visit — not an upgrade.

How long is the mowing season around here?

Roughly April through early November, depending on the spring. We usually start once the ground firms up and the grass is actively growing, and finish after the last of the leaves are down.

Do you do fall cleanups and leaf removal?

Yes. Leaves come down over several weeks here rather than all at once, so most properties need more than one pass. A cleanup covers clearing leaves off the lawn and out of the beds and corners, and hauling everything away.

Will you mow a rental or a property I don't live at?

Yes — and it's a good part of what we do. Rentals, vacant lots, properties being sold and homes owned by people who are out of the area. We keep it cut on schedule and you don't have to think about it.

Are quotes free?

Always. Call or text 563-613-2207, tell us the address, and we'll come look and give you a price. No charge, no obligation.

Which areas do you serve?

Camanche, Clinton and the surrounding Clinton County towns — DeWitt, Low Moor, Charlotte, Goose Lake, Grand Mound, Delmar and Wheatland — plus the river towns just across in Illinois. Outside that list? Call and we'll tell you straight.
